Pacific Union Recorder

DecemberRecorder

The Recorder is the monthly news magazine of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Pacific Southwest.

Every church member or family in Arizona,
California, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah receives a
hard copy of the magazine, free of charge.

Please note:

The Northern California Conference ONLY submits information for the 4-6 pages/obituaries/calendar items each edition that pertain to the Northern California Conference. We do not choose articles for other conferences/ministries, and we do not choose the Recorder cover photo. The cover image is chosen from the photos that are submitted from all around the union and is based on a variety of criteria, including resolution, format, composition, relevance, etc.

If you have questions that are not about the Northern California Conference's 4-6 pages, please send your message to the Recorder directly.

Each month the Recorder includes a calendar of events for the Northern California Conference. Churches, schools, and ministries may submit 50-word announcements for events happening within the month of the published issue (or within the first two weeks of the next month). For example, items happening during the first two weeks of April can appear in the March and the April issues.

The deadline for the Recorder is at least six weeks ahead of publication date, so please be aware of the announcement deadlines at right.

The announcement must contain the event's location address and a contact telephone number or web address. Feel free to write if you have any questions.

Each month, the Northern California Conference submits articles and pictures to the Pacific Union Recorder for publication. With nearly 80,000 household subscriptions, this monthly magazine is a great way to tell readers what’s going on in your church and school.

Recorder editors reserve pages for the NCC in every issue. Usually, for the even months (February, April, June, August, October, December), the NCC has two pages, which appear in all copies of the Recorder throughout the Pacific Union, and four pages that only Recorder subscribers in Northern California receive. (The NCC Communication Department designs these pages as an insert.) On the odd months (January, March, May, July, September, November), the NCC has four pages that appear in every Recorder throughout the union.

We are looking for articles describing special events or ongoing activities happening in your church or school. Some topics that are excellent for Recorder articles: baptisms, ground-breaking ceremonies, mission trips, community outreach projects, evangelistic meetings, school events, Pathfinder outings, etc.

Pictures always make stories more interesting. If you know of an event coming up, plan to take pictures. Each photo must have a caption. The caption should be one or two sentences describing what happened in the photo and must include the name(s) of the person/people if possible.

SUBMIT A CHURCH MISSING MEMBER LIST

Church clerks may submit a list of missing members to be published one time per year for free. (For more than once a year, churches must pay the standard classified ad rate.) Please submit the following information: church name, church clerk, contact information for clerk (telephone number, email address, and/or mailing address), list of missing members.

Each month, the Pacific Union Recorder publishes obituaries for Adventist members. Most of the time, a church clerk or church secretary will submit the information to the NCC Communication Department, which then sends it to the union for publication. The Communication Department does not decide when obituaries will be published. The Recorder editors print them as they have room.

If you would like to submit an obituary for publication, please fill out the following form. It will then be sent to the Recorder coordinator, Julie Lorenz, in the NCC Communication Department. All areas marked with * must be filled in. It is a Recorder policy to print only obituaries with complete information. If one piece of information is definitely not available from the family, please type “unknown.” Please verify all information before submitting.

Those listed must have been members in the Pacific Union at the time of death. (Exceptions are made for those who lived here for many years or for those who recently left). Listings more than nine months old do not qualify for publication.

Note On Survivor Section: Clearly print all surviving relatives in this order: spouse, sons, stepsons, daughters, stepdaughters, parents, step-parents siblings, step-siblings. Please do not list other relatives, such as spouses of family members, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, roommates, etc.

THIS IS ONLY FOR NORTHERN CALIFORNIA CONFERENCE MEMBERS. IF YOU ARE FROM ANOTHER CONFERENCE, PLEASE CONTACT THAT CONFERENCE DIRECTLY.
